This large John David original master carving showcases the artist's unique vision of replicating the abstract look of wind traveling upward. While also staying true to his personal style of carving in this highly prized Burl. This abstract sculpture transforms our own very rare big leaf maple Burl into a soaring vertical form that captures the fluid grace and raw power of nature. Half of this piece features an intricate hand carved landscape of knotted growth, brought to a luminous honey toned finish of John’s proprietary 3 month hand rubbed natural finish of tung oil, and carnauba wax. The live edges of this piece were created by mother nature over a period of probably easily 100 years of growth of that maple tree here on the Oregon coastline. There will never be another piece even remotely replicating this sculpture ever. It was purchased and created to become a stand alone focal point piece for any highly curated collection.

Artist Statement: This is up to this point my favorite piece. I literally left this wood untouched leaning against a wall in my living room for over a year contemplating this carve . In my mind I would cut here, carve there. And then I the morning I would wake up and go look at this chunk of wood and totally change my mind. So this process went on and on, as I put other pieces in front of it to be carved first while I made up my mind. Then one day my wife brought the piece of wood from our living room down to my carving shop, and said basically ( guess what dear your carving this piece today. It’s not staying in my living room for another minute. So let’s just say I started carving that piece of wood right now, in a rather desperate attempt to keep the family circle to continue to be happy forever shall we say. A week later I was done, and sheepishly brought it out and hung it in the hallway, where it stayed for the next 6 months hanging on our that hallway wall. My wife has never commented on this piece either positively or negatively which is very good for me I would say. Also I never did have the guts to go hang it back up in the living room. Who knows maybe when it finds a new home it will make it to the living room.
