This piece is a John David original piece, and is part of his (Oregon past and present) collection of pieces. It explores the duality of nature and artifice through this rare big leaf maple Burl. From its Dark glossy resin exterior live edge front, to its carved and warm tung oil finish which showcases the wild grains of Burl wood on its opposing side. A hand forged custom tree bark style metal rod connects the top sculpture, with the base bed of colorful agates found on the Oregon coast. This piece is an excellent choice for a focal point in your house, or a signature piece to have in any highly curated private collection.

Artist Statement: I had a good deal of fun collecting the (agates) or one could say mixed color ocean washed rocks right after an extra ferocious king tide decimated the Oregon coast the winter of 2025. Then when I got a low tide I was out to the beach at dark one morning, and all these rocky treasures were literally everywhere my flashlight could display like little gemstones glistening all over the surface of that ocean swept beach. This piece of speciality Oregon coast maple burl wood, is one I have been keeping in my shop waiting for just the right time, and the right collaborative materials to create a really cool piece. I hope it brings you as much joy as I experienced when I was out there on that deserted beach greedily collecting my hoard.
