This is a collaborative piece that came together perfectly. The glass sculpture tree, and glass rocks are standing on a live edge custom piece of maple Burl. The technique on the base takes months of slow steps to get right, but it’s worth it. This piece transitions from rich earth toned amber trunk to a lush emerald green canopy meant to depict Shore pines that are iconic to the beautiful Oregon coast.
Artist Statement by John David: This work is inspired by many trips up and down 101 Hwy on the Oregon coast. The wind carves the iconic shore pines that dot the landscape. Hanging off cliffs. In Sieltz bay they grow on 3 little islands grouped together. Mother Nature is always the artist that does the very best work there is. Every turn of that road can bring a postcard moment. Aaron has a way with creating the natural look of shore pines sitting on a rocky outcropping out of glass better than anyone else I know of. The carved pedestal this shore pines sits on is made of some of the most beautiful live edge maple Burl the Oregon coast has to offer. Please enjoy. We both very much enjoyed creating it.
