This piece is a hand crafted John David original. It is carved from a very rare specimen of fallen old growth reclaimed big leaf maple Burl. The highly prized wild figured grain and shiny black resin finish, gives the exterior texture a beautiful contrast, that make this piece a singular statement piece to be placed in your home or as a focal point in a highly curated collection of modern art.

Artist Statement: This piece of wood caught my attention originally when I was rummaging through a big pile of wood. How the Burl nodules look, and how the base has this natural smooth flow to it, which is extremely rare to have these two elements I one piece of wood. I quickly picked it up and got it to my pile of wood, and surprisingly enough the next randomly grabbed piece of wood ended up on top of it. Funny how that happens. Anyway it’s a cool piece. I hope it is enjoyed in your pile of art pieces. Hopefully not on the bottom of the pile this time though.
