This hand carved John David origional piece showcases Oregon’s own big leaf maple Burl. This sculpture honors its origins by meticulously replicating the majestic form of this very rare tree, from which its intricate knotted grain was born.
Artist Statement: I personally like this piece simply because it really does look like a windswept maple tree growing on the scenic Oregon coast. I mounted it on a minimalistic copper live edge base, that has plenty of flowing patterns in its base, which helps to give the illusion of motion, from the wind even as the tree strives to grow on its windswept rocky base Mother Nature again coming-out in spectacular fashion has created a truly huge and thriving big leaf maple tree. I also like the fact that on purpose I made this sculpture a very small piece ass a juxtaposition to the actual size of this very huge tree found growing throughout this beautiful Oregon coastline.
